    Inland Shipping Ordinance, 1976 (No. LXXII). - Legislation on-line

    Any inland ship as defined in section 2 shall be surveyed and registered under this Ordinance. Surveyors shall inspect the ship and make a declaration that certain requirements, including marking requirements, are fulfilled. A certificate of survey shall be issued if the ship complies with provisions of this Ordinance. The Registrar may refuse to register a ship if that ship is found to be mechanically or structurally defective. Other provisions concern the safety of ships, carriage of dangerous goods, obstruction of navigable waters, and offences and penalties.

    Sections 98 to 117 provide for labour related issues. Provides, among other things, that no young person under fifteen years of age shall be engaged to work in any capacity in any ship. Regulates also engagement of young persons as trimmers or stokers, medical examination of young persons, maintenance of list or register of young persons in a ship and agreements with crew.

    The present Order provides for the establishment of the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation and empowers it, by mean of a Board of Directors, to dispose for the safety and efficiency of shipping services on international routes and their management and maintenance.

    Inland Water Transport Authority Ordinance (Ordinance No. LXXV of 1958). - Legislation on-line

    The Government may, by notification, establish an Authority to be known as the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority, composed of members to be appointed by the Government. The Authority may carry out river conservancy works including regulation of river flow for navigational purposes, maintain hydro-graphic surveys, develop rivers, carry out dredging programmes, develop ports, develop rural water transport, etc. The Authority may enforce rules and regulations pertaining to inland waterways and navigation.
