Résumé/Citation: Sets out protection standards for both working children and young persons. This Act is applicable to all kinds of employment, including apprenticeships. Sections 2 to 10 concern children's protection. The persons covered are minors who have not finished school yet and who are obligated by law to attend a school (section 2). In principle children shall not work, except children 12 years old and above, who are allowed to do the kind of light work described in section 5. Young persons enjoy special protection regarding their daily working time, rest periods and night work, and they shall not work from 8PM to 6AM, as well as on Sundays and statutory holidays. Section 28 of this Act provides an exception during states of emergency which must be approved by the labour inspectorate pursuant to Section 20. The labour inspectorate must hear the employer and the young persons' representatives before it can make its decision. Consolidated text.
