Résumé/Citation: | Consolidates Merchant Shipping Acts 1894 to 1994 and other enactments related to merchant shipping. Parts I and II regulate the registration of ships. Part II contains provisions relating to masters and seamen, addressing, inter alia: wages, medical care, crew accomodations, crew training, and disciplinary measures against seamen. Part IV establishes safety and health requirements aboard ships. Part V sets forth provisions relating to fishing vessels and their crew regarding matters addressed in Part III. Parts VI through IX deal with pollution, liability of ship owners, the operation of lighthouses, and shipwrecks. Parts X through XI regulate the powers of inspectors, the investigation of accidents, and legal proceedings related to merchant shipping. |
