Gives effect to Council Directive 96/97/EC on the implementation of the principle of equal treatment for men and women in occupational social security schemes. Substitutes s. 69 of the Social Welfare Act, 1992, dealing with exceptions to the principle of equal treatment (e.g. for self-employed persons).
