On Monday 12 June, World Day Against Child Labour, the European Commission is hosting a Lunchtime conference. Audrey Le Guével, Programme and Operations Officer at ILO-Brussels, will participate.

168 million children in the world are obliged to work, half of them in the worst forms in sectors such as agriculture, construction and mining. Poverty being both the cause and the consequence, strategic and holistic actions are essential to break this vicious cycle and to accelerate the pace for the elimination of child labour in all its forms by 2025 as envisaged by the SDG target 8.7. The recently adopted EU Guidelines for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of the Child, EU interventions and mainstreaming efforts will be presented. The IV Global Conference on the Sustained Eradication of Child Labour in Argentina of 14-16 November 2017 will be introduced with other ILO initiatives within the framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

We warmly invite you to this conference.
