The Promoting the Global Development Initiative with a Focus on South-South Cooperation in Employment in ASEAN organized a panel discussion titled "Youth Entrepreneurship: Fostering Decent Employment Opportunities" at the National Career and Productivity Fair 2023 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, to promote entrepreneurship development as a viable pathway for decent employment generation and a productive alternative for job seekers.

Improving safety and health at every step of the coffee supply chain in Viet Nam

This video provides an introduction on the ILO Vision Zero Fund’s work to promote workplace safety and health on coffee farms in the Central Highlands of Viet Nam through training and collective action. In doing so, the project engages with national and international partners, including multi-national companies and NGOs. Farmers appreciate the training approach and share their learning and good practices for workplace improvements with other farmers in their community which promotes sustainability and scaling.

International Labour Organization (ILO) Bangladesh and the Ministry of Youth and Sports have launched a transformative project, "Leaving No One Behind: Improving Skills and Economic Opportunities for Women & Youth in Cox's Bazar (ISEC)” that will equip Bangladeshi women and youth with the skills to improve their chances of getting decent work or starting their own businesses.

Validation of social security research findings in Lao People's Democratic Republic

On 27 July 2023, the ILO/Korea Partnership Programme held a workshop to validate the findings of its research on social security in Lao PDR. There were many notable findings such as the weak enforcement of laws, limited communications and understanding of social security, no system of incentives to motivate workers and enterprises to join, and lack of inspections or sanctions on those who do not comply with the law. The research analyses the characteristics of and reasons for the widespread informality and recommends tailored strategies to strengthen the social security system.

Around 9 out of every 10 workers in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic are not covered by social security. The International Labour Organization, in collaboration with Homenet Laos, conducted research to better understand the nature of informality and how to expand social security to informal workers.
