    As Sri Lanka faces its worst economic crisis, people with existing vulnerabilities have been pushed further into poverty, unemployment, and food insecurity. With ILO support, vulnerable members of farming communities in the country’s northern province are earning an income by completing irrigation, flooding, and farmland access related maintenance work in their lands.

    Paitara Chaochalard's story

    Paitara Chaochalard (Modd) is a Thai entrepreneur who runs a small event planning business, Neat Event and Consultant Co. The COVID-19 pandemic was particularly disruptive to her business, cutting 80 percent of income, and forced her to pivot her business online. To transition her operations online and stay resilient during the crisis, Modd joined activities organized under the ILO’s Rebuilding Better Project together with local partners ECOT and WE-Can.

After almost closing her business, the Nature Wellness Village, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Cathy was able to pivot her strategy and get it back on a growth trajectory.

    Sofea Shater is the founder and CEO of Sofea Homeopathy Center, a treatment centre operating in Seremban, Malaysia. Supported by the ILO’s Rebuilding Better Project throughout the past year, Sofea is now embracing the “new normal” with renewed sense of motivation, sharper technical skills, and a community of women to lean on during times of crisis.
