BANGKOK (ILO News) – The anti-child labour song recorded by two of Thailand’s rock music icons has reached a million hits on social media.

The Thai version of the song “Til Everyone Can See” was released on 10 June 2015, by Toon and his band Bodyslam, working with Foet, the lead singer of Slot Machine.

The song is the anthem for the Red Card to Child Labour Campaign, launched last year by the International Labour Organization (ILO) to mark World Day Against Child Labour which falls on 12 June every year. The Thai version is the first national language cover version to be recorded and released.

“I’m so happy that the song has reached a million hits. Our fans are the greatest and I’d like to thank them for supporting us and the campaign to end child labour. Please keep spreading the word and listening to this great music,” said Foet of Slot Machine.

“The momentum created by this song and its social messages has been fantastic. One million hits in a country of 67 million people is phenomenal,” said Maurizio Bussi, Officer-in-Charge of ILO Country Office for Thailand, Cambodia and Lao PDR. “This shows the power of music to spread social messages, engage with young people and galvanize public attention to important contemporary issues such as combating child labour.”

The original version of “‘Till Everyone Can See” was written by Mike Einziger, the American Grammy-nominated guitarist from the alternative rock band, Incubus, and the world-renowned violinist, Ann Marie Simpson. They recorded it for World Day Against Child Labour 2014 with their friends, the artists Travis Barker, Minh Dang, Dominic Lewis, LIZ, Pharrell Williams, and Hans Zimmer.

All the artists on both the Thai and English versions of the song donated their time and talent for free to the campaign.

The Thai version of the song was created by Po Posayanukul, a well-known lyricist and music producer.

The Asia and Pacific region hosts the largest number of child labourers in the world according to ILO estimates – 78 million out of 168 million globally.
