BANGKOK (ILO News) - The training, being held from 11–15 August 2014 will bring together representatives of governments, employers’ and workers’ organizations from Cambodia, India, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka and Timor-Leste.

This training programme has been developed to strengthen the operations of public employment services in participating countries. “Employment services are critical in functioning of the labour markets in response to the diverse economic situations in this region. It not only drives us toward a better inclusive growth, but also plays an important role in assisting vulnerable groups like unemployed youths, women, migrant workers, people in rural communities and people with disabilities to find appropriate employment. We are expecting substantial benefits from this training,” said Carmela Torres, ILO Senior Specialist on Skills and Employability.

“This training course was officially launched in Bangkok in October 2012 for tripartite delegations representing eight countries in the ASEAN region. Since that time the training has benefitted more than 22 countries from Europe, Africa, and the Middle East,” said Donna Koeltz, ILO Senior Specialist on Employment Services. “I am delighted to return to Bangkok for this second opportunity to assist countries in the region enhance their public employment services“.

The goal of improving employment services is in line with the participants’ country programme priorities set out in their individual Decent Work Country Programmes.
