Programmes and projects

Technical cooperation programmes and projects implemented are one of the main means of action to support constituents in promoting decent work in the African region and to give effect to the Decent Work Agenda in Africa 2007-15.

Since 2002, a total of 560 technical cooperation programmes and projects have been approved for the African region, with a total budget of US$545.2 million. Practically all countries in the region have benefited from such interventions. As of December 2011, there were 205 active technical cooperation projects being managed by the ILO in the African region.

    Reducing conflict and crime by rehabilitating potential and actual perpetrators of violence, to pave way for rule of law and recovery.

  3. Somalia: Youth for change

    1 August 2012 - 1 July 2013

    The Youth for Change joint initiative aims at reducing risk of youth becoming involved in antisocial and criminal behavior. Its economic re-integration component focuses, among others, on green job promotion.

  4. Law-Growth Nexus II: Labour Law and the enabling business environment for SMEs in Kenya and Zambia

    The Law Growth Nexus II Project is aligned to the Decent Work Country Programmes (DWCP) in Kenya and Zambia which identifies Social Protection, Employment Creation and Social dialogue as priorities for consideration. The project is also premised on the fi ndings of a fi rst phase which was designed to contribute to fi lling the gaps in information and knowledge regarding the influence labour and labour-related laws and regulations have on Micro and Small Enterprises (MSE) employment and particularly on the growth Law Growth Nexus Project prospects of MSEs, their decisions regarding formality and the quality of the jobs MSEs create.

    Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is currently implementing a project in the Northern region of Sierra Leone aimed at developing the capacities of various entities for comprehensive district development.

  2. Quick Impact Employment Creation for Youth through Labour Based Public Works (QIEC)

    1 January 2010 - 31 December 2012

    The Project is a continuation of an ongoing programme designed to provide rapid employment opportunities and income generating activities for youth while strengthening the capacities of small contractors, local governments and MDAs to facilitate job creation at local levels. It will also stimulate local economic development development.

  5. Enhancing the cooperation to fight trafficking in human being from Nigeria to Europe

    1 December 2010 - 31 December 2012

    Progressive reduction of trafficking through better cooperation between Nigeria and Italy to prosecute traffickers, protect and re-integrate victims as well as to prevent trafficking.

  6. Sustained Peace for Development: Conflict Prevention and Peace- Building in South Sudan

    The Sustained Peace for Development programme was a three year, multi‐agency project whose primary aim was to promote peace building and effective conflict management in the border areas between Sudan and South Sudan by strengthening capacity in national peace building institutions and increasing security and peace dividends for communities in the target areas.
