  1. ILO Mozambique supports TRANSFORM training on social protection for Ministry of Economy and Finance

    14 - 16 November 2022

    The Ministry of Economy and Finance of Mozambique (MEF), with ILO’s technical and financial support, kicked off today a three-day application of the TRANSFORM package for policymakers, which is taking place in Boane district (Maputo Province) between 14 and 16 November 2022. This training is being supported by the IrishAid-ILO programme “Inclusive Growth, Social Protection and Jobs” as well as the United Nations Joint Programme on Social Protection 2017-2023, funded by the embassies of Finland, the Netherlands, Sweden and the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom. MEF requested ILO’s support for building the institutional capacities and skills of 24 senior technicians and enhance their knowledge and awareness on social protection, equipping them to better address existing challenges in the planning, budgeting, and implementation of social protection in Mozambique. By doing so, the goal is to support a more effective and efficient social protection system in Mozambique and ultimately contribute to increased fiscal space for the social protection sector, enabling coverage extension, increased adequacy, and better access.

  2. COP27: ILO events streamed from the Just Transition Pavilion

    8 - 18 November 2022

    Keeping the social dimension of climate change at the forefront of discussions is the focus of events being organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO) at the up-coming UN Climate Change Conference (COP27). Together with the European Commission, the ILO hosts the first ever Just Transition Pavilion, a convening space for events, meetings and knowledge sharing around just transition and climate action in cooperation with the UNFCCC, International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and International Organisation of Employers (IOE).   4. Africa-Arab States fellowship for journalism students in labour migration reporting

    17 October - 15 December 2022

    The ILO FAIRWAY programme has conducted back-to-back activities in Uganda and Jordan for journalism students and recent graduates of four universities: Makerere University (Uganda), Uganda Christian University (Uganda), Yarmouk University (Jordan) and Middle East University (Jordan). These activities are the first part of a broader cross-border fellowship aimed at increasing the interest of journalism students in international labour mobility, enhancing their labour migration reporting skills, and fostering cross-border networks to report these stories along a corridor approach.

  6. Designing Off-Grid Solar Energy Systems

    28 September 2022

    The International Labour Organization (ILO), with funding provided by the Government of Sweden, is supporting the Kafue Gorge Regional Training Centre (KGRTC) to implement the Skills for Energy in Southern Africa (SESA) Project. This is a three-and-a-half-year intervention with the overall development objective of increasing the uptake of renewable energy, energy efficiency and regional energy integration through skills development in Zambia and the SADC region. It is expected that the project will strengthen KGRTC’s capacity as a Centre of Excellence for energy training in the region and significantly increase the number of power technicians, engineers and managers that are skilled in renewable energy, energy efficiency and regional energy integration. The project will be implemented through a Public Private Public Development Partnership (PPDP) approach.

  7. Launch of the 2022 edition of the International Journal of Labour Research

    The ILO’s Bureau for Workers’ Activities (ACTRAV) will organize a high-level launch of the International Journal of Labour Research on 26th September 2022 at 13:30 (CET-Geneva time). "Trade Union Revitalization: Organizing new forms of work including platform workers" will be launched during a panel discussions which will bring together authors, researchers , academics, ILO representatives and leaders from trade union movement.

  8. Environmental and Social Impact Assessment for Renewable Energy Projects Course

    26 September - 25 November 2022

    Outlining critical information, processes and approaches to environmental and social governance as they relate to the development construction, operation and decommissioning of Renewable Energy (RE) projects. The course content will involve all the initial processes from the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) all through the lifecycle of RE. The focus will be on the broader environmental impact of both the plant site and its surroundings as well as the workspaces of all personnel involved. The course will also highlight all key aspects of each component of the environmental requirements and their interaction with all the stakeholders of the RE. The course also aims to highlight the environmental requirements as one of the critical components in the setting up of a RE plant. This course will help participants develop their knowledge and skills to ensure that all aspects of the environmental requirements of renewable energy projects are effectively and properly managed.

  9. Partnering for Action: Implementation of the Global Accelerator on Jobs and Social Protection for Just Transitions

    This UNGA high-level event brings together Heads of State and Government, heads of UN agencies, international financial institutions, the private sector and civil society representatives, to announce concrete commitments aimed at ensuring the success of the Global Accelerator and the role it can play in advancing the SDGs.

  10. Transforming Technical and Vocational Education and Training for Refugees: Greening the Southern Africa Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Ecosystem

    The United Nations Transforming Education Summit - TES: Solutions Day aims to mobilize collective actions and initiatives around Thematic Action Tracks - that require greater attention and action to accelerate progress on the education 2030 Agenda and transform education. This event will contribute to the second Thematic Action Track of "Learning and skills for life, work, and sustainable development".
