  1. Workshop on "Improving Informal Apprenticeship - What Strategy for Egypt?"

    25 - 27 September 2012

    In cooperation of the Ministry of Manpower and Migration (MoMM), on 25 September 2012 ILO Cairo Office held the three-day workshop on "Improving Informal Apprenticeship- What Strategy for Egypt?". The workshop, falling within the framework of the project 'Decent Jobs for Egypt's Youth' and the 'Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour', was attended by over 40 representatives from MoMM, civil society, Social Fund for Development, as well as experts and academics.

  2. Principal Secretaries-Adoption of National Employment and Labour Policy

    The Ministry of Labour in Malawi in collaboration with the International Labour Organization held a one day meeting with Principal Secretaries to discuss the National Employment and Labour Policy for Malawi whose draft was finalised in July 2012.

  3. Kenya: Symposium on Police-Management Relations in Africa

    For many years, the police and prisons services were usually excluded from general labour legislation in many countries. Police and Prisons Acts were enacted covering issues such as appointment and service conditions, but there was no involvement of the officers themselves. Even as other civil servants gained their organizational rights, the police and prisons did not, arguably due to the nature of their responsibility for the internal security of the country.

  5. Debate on managing Social Security Pensions in South Africa

    The Graduate School of Public and Development Management at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, is preparing for the South African social security debate, in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO). Applicants from labour, business, civil society and government are particularly encouraged to attend.

  6. Employers’ Organizations to promote Women Entrepreneurs

    9 - 13 July 2012

    Participants from attended a 4-day training workshop aimed to help Employers’ Organizations staff and board members to reflect, exchange and put in place strategies and tools to tap women entrepreneurs’ potential in a smart way.

  7. Enhancing Migration, Mobility, Employment and Higher Education in the RECs of Africa

    5 - 6 July 2012

    A technical meeting organised within the framework of the Africa - European Union (EU) Migration, Mobility and Employment (MME) Partnership and aimed at providing a snapshot of policy frameworks, programmes and coordination mechanisms put in place by Regional Economic Communities in Africa.

  8. Trainings/Workshops on Human Trafficking and Forced Labour for Labour Officers in Nigeria

    12 - 21 June 2012

    Under the Project on "Enhancing Cooperation to Fight Trafficking in Human Beings from Nigeria to Europe" backstopped by the International Labour Organization (ILO), this workshop aims to build capacities of some 60 Labour Officers and Inspectors to enable them identify cases of forced labour, trafficking and smuggling activities and be aware of appropriate actions to take.

  9. World Day Against Child Labour 2012

    12 - 21 June 2012

    This year the World Day Against Child Labour will provide a spotlight on the right of all children to be protected from child labour and from other violations of fundamental human rights. In 2010 the international community adopted a Roadmap for achieving the elimination of the worst forms of child labour by 2016, which stressed that child labour is an impediment to children�s rights and a barrier to development. World Day 2012 will highlight the work that needs to be done to make the roadmap a reality.

  10. Building Modern and Effective Labour Administration and Inspection Systems in Swaziland

    4 - 8 June 2012

    New approaches on labour inspection systems were at the heart of the meeting, including the revitalization of the inspection services and the outlining of a range of innovative methodologies to labour inspection work.
