Rural economy

Launch of the report "Decent work deficits among rural workers"

This webinar is bringing together senior trade union leaders, workers and allies, ILO leadership, researchers, and academicians to discuss about challenges, opportunities and strategies to address the decent work deficits in the rural economy.

Background

Following the successful completion of a research project which uncovered the extent of decent work deficits and existing opportunities for trade union organizing in 15 rural economic sectors in 16 countries; ACTRAV is bringing together senior trade union leaders, workers and allies, ILO leadership, researchers, and academicians to share the outcomes of the study, discuss and construct a human-centered recovery which place the needs and aspirations of workers in the rural economy at the center of development, employment, labor market, social protection, social dialogue policy and practice.

The key speakers will share forward looking perspectives on how trade unions can work with governments, employers, civil society, and other development partners to address the decent work deficits in the rural economy. Workers shall be invited to share their lived experiences and offer practical guidance on how the challenges confronting them could be systematically addressed. Trade union leaders will share lessons and good example practices on organizing and effective extension of services to workers in the rural economy.

The panellists will also be expected to draw lessons from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and offer guidance on how workers in the rural economy can be adequately included in national crisis socio-economic policy and program responses.
